Editor introduction
Ruqian Wu is Professor of Physics & Astronomy in University
of California, Irvine. He authored and coauthored about 300 papers on
magnetism, optics and catalysis. His major accomplishments include: (1) revealed
the mechanism of magnetic anisotropy in thin films and nanostructures; (2) examined
and established the sum rules of magnetic circular dichroism; (3) studied the
mechanism of large magnetostriction of transition metal alloys; (4) proposed
material systems for the realization of quantum Hall effect and quantum
anomalous Hall effect.
